I really enjoy your writing, but I'm glad you didn't start a huge bon fire. I know what you mean by 1000 sq ft...my house is 1200 square ft and there is no room for anything else. Pet Whitsun for me!
I feel this, as much as I love winter. I've been increasingly stir crazy because there's too.much.ice. and I despise winter rain. This is Wisconsin, not London. I spent a good three hours last evening shredding old papers (which, to be honest, should have been done years ago) and it felt very very good.
I do understand the Christmas / January blahs. I’m a bonafide certified sanctioned (by my friends) Christmas Nut. Things start coming out in late October. By the time Christmas Day and New Year’s Day hit I’m looking at all the “junk” I have to deal with and put away. Misery.
As I got older I realized I don’t have to have a tree in my small place - little trees you can place around and everything else will do.
As I got even older - less and less of everything else made it out of the loft closet.
The last two years I had just enough CHEER (not junk) put out very smartly that can even drift into January HYGGE. Just the way I like it. It’s a process. Age helps.
If I may ask, why do you feel like throwing everything into a bonfire? Because you feel closed in and cramped in winter?
Our 110-year-old house is 1600 square feet, but it's very chopped up, not well designed at all. It always feels crowded. Even after 31 years, I still try to come up with ways to rearrange the living room, but the furniture only works one way, and just barely.

oh excellent! Shredding is a perfect winter activity.
It may be, but I can’t stand that grinding sharp noise.

I think it's basically cabin fever.
Ah! I see. Summer is what gets me---I just want to find a cool, dark room and hide from June through September.
Beautiful Whitson ❤️
Cabin fever and moods! Yikes!
