Wow, you got your money's worth out of those batteries! I'm sure the company that made them was bought out by a company making less efficient batteries for more money. Smh
Many years ago, I had a Chevy Cavalier. The heater went out on it during a severe January cold snap. Before my husband got around to fixing it, my mother-in-law called. Same car model, same problem. Do these parts somehow "know"?
You're lucky, as am I, to have a mechanic in the family.
I too always get caught by an expiring battery. Fortunately, our nearby Autozone will install a new one free. But the prices . . .! I am old-fashioned. The idea of battery life being only 3 years sounds preposterous.
And don't ask me about mattresses. I have stories about trying to replace a > twenty yr. mattress w/ a new one. I went through a number of domestic-made ones w/ reduced warranties and quality, until I found an Ikea one w/ a twenty year warranty. Guess which one felt the best?
Years ago, someone captured an inner office email of an administrator of a mattress company: "We have to start making our mattresses lower quality, because the old ones were lasting too long." Killed my back until an old-timer sales guy said they used to have metal bars in them at hip level. But metal was getting more expensive and they left it out of the new ones.
A LOT of people were complaining about the new mattresses online as their old ones aged out.
I'm in Cols too. That place didn't work out for me. I wasn't a large person at all and it was dropping in the middle w/i several weeks. I could tell because the edges weren't. They remade it once and it still did the same thing. But they did take it back, with some wrangling (I couldn't afford another one).
Original MF could be better now. This was years ago. Robots, huh? I went through about ten types of mattresses, incl. ones I created myself fr. a local foam place and a WV family mattress company. They all deteriorated rapidly except the Ikea innerspring, but my back was so messed up by then I sold it to a client and it relieved his bad back.

Seriously. And what a story of synchronicity!

So thankful you were not in Milwaukee when this happened! Yay for your Dad being on call!!

Lucky me in Columbus, OH. The Original Mattress Factory makes them here, and they are really nice. The factory uses robots now.

What? No picture of Whitsun?
We are away from home for three weeks for husband's radiation treatments; I didn't take enough last weekend when we were home to last the week!
My thought, too! 😁
