“India.” It wasn’t actually, but nobody at dinner would know, and so Katherine Benedictia DeGroat felt no guilt for scrawling “India” across the back of the postcard that she was planning on passing around the table at dinner time.
Richard Stevenson DeGroat, her husband of twenty-three years, had invited the photographer who created the postcard to dinner without Katherine’s permission.
Although Katherine, Richard, and their marriage would survive the evening, the DeGroats’ influence in the local arts community would not.
Dick DeGroat felt this was an acceptable price to pay for the denouement of his wealthy but insufferable wife.
He was tired of serving on the Arts Foundation board anyway.

I'm sure the wine was served in sparkling crystal; and the photographer's spit-take was equally memorable. 😅
Thank you for this!!
